At Temple Guiting Church of England School, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to flourish and thrive.
Our Christian vision, Everyone to Thrive, is rooted in the words of Jesus:

We believe that thriving means developing as a whole person — mind, body, relationships and spirit. Spiritual flourishing is therefore an important part of school life for children and adults alike.
As a Church of England school, our Christian vision shapes the opportunities we provide, the relationships we nurture and the way we help everyone to flourish. We want children to develop a growing understanding of themselves, their relationships with others, the world around them and questions of faith, meaning and purpose.
Spiritual development is not a separate subject or a single activity. It is a journey that can be nurtured through learning, relationships, experiences, reflection and the everyday life of our school.
Spirituality Is Everywhere
We believe opportunities for spiritual development can be found throughout school life, not just in Religious Education (RE) or collective worship.
A moment of wonder in Science, discovering beauty in Art, exploring different perspectives in History, solving a challenging problem in Maths or being inspired by Music can all provide opportunities to reflect and grow.
Spirituality can also be nurtured through spending time in nature, playing sport, developing a friendship, overcoming a challenge, showing compassion or responding thoughtfully to a difficult situation.
Our teachers look for opportunities to help children make connections between their learning, their experiences and the wider world. We encourage children to pause, notice, question and reflect, developing their ability to recognise what matters to them and to others.
We want spiritual development to be naturally woven throughout the curriculum and everyday experiences, giving children opportunities to deepen their thinking as they move through the school.
Exploring Life's Big Questions
We believe children need opportunities to explore questions that go beyond simply knowing what something is and begin to consider why it matters.
Through collective worship, class discussions, RE and learning across the curriculum, children are encouraged to wonder, question, reflect and think deeply.
We use four areas to help children explore their spiritual development.
Self
Who am I? What makes me unique? What are my hopes and dreams? How do I understand my feelings and beliefs? How can I grow?
Children are encouraged to develop self-awareness, recognise their own worth, reflect on their experiences and consider what gives their lives meaning and purpose.
Others
What makes a good friend? How should we treat people who are different from us? What does forgiveness mean? How can we help others to thrive?
Children explore relationships, empathy, compassion, belonging and the importance of recognising the dignity and worth of every person.
The World
What fills us with awe and wonder? What do we find beautiful? What responsibilities do we have towards creation? Is it possible to make the world fair for everyone?
Children are encouraged to notice the beauty and complexity of the world, appreciate different experiences and consider how they can care for the environment and contribute positively to their community.
Beyond
Why are we here? What gives us hope? What might people believe about God and the creation of the world? Are there things we cannot fully see, explain or understand?
Children explore questions of faith, belief, meaning and purpose, considering Christian teaching alongside other beliefs and worldviews where appropriate.
As children progress through the school, we provide opportunities for their questions and reflections to become increasingly thoughtful and challenging. We encourage ethical, philosophical and theological thinking, helping children make connections, consider different viewpoints and explain their ideas.
There is not always one simple answer. We want children to develop the confidence to wonder, listen, question, reflect and respectfully consider different perspectives.
Worship and Spiritual Growth
Collective worship provides intentional opportunities for spiritual flourishing and is an important expression of our identity as a Church of England school.
Through our worship journey — Welcome, Encounter, Explore, Reflect, Respond, Thrive and Prayer — children and adults are invited to encounter Christian teaching, explore life's big questions, reflect on their experiences and consider how they might respond.
Our worship is rooted in Jesus Christ and the Bible, while remaining inclusive, invitational and inspiring. We recognise that members of our community may have different beliefs and experiences, and we create opportunities for everyone to engage, reflect and grow.
Prayer is invitational. Children and adults may pray, listen, be still or reflect quietly, according to their own response.
Our Spread the Word Worship Team, made up of volunteers from our wider community, joins us each Thursday to lead collective worship. Each Wednesday, children also take part in class worship. These smaller gatherings provide additional opportunities to share thoughts, ask questions, wonder together and reflect.
Children record their worship experiences and reflections in their class Spiritual Journey Books. These help us revisit the questions children have explored and recognise how their ideas, understanding and reflections develop over time.
We also celebrate important moments in the Christian year in church, including Harvest, Christmas and Easter, alongside special occasions such as Pentecost, our Shoebox Appeal and Leavers' Service.
Through these experiences, we aim to nurture spiritual curiosity, deepen understanding and encourage children to consider how the Christian faith and our values can influence the way we live.
Rooted in Love
Love is our overarching Christian value.
Our understanding of love is rooted particularly in 1 Corinthians 13, which reminds us that love is patient, kind, enduring and hopeful.
Our six Christian values — Respect, Courage, Trust, Forgiveness, Perseverance and Friendship — help us explore what love can look like in everyday life.
We want children to experience these values, not simply learn about them. This means creating opportunities to show kindness, build positive relationships, forgive others, persevere through challenges and stand up for what is right.
Our values shape the way we learn together, respond to difficulties and care for one another. They also encourage children to think beyond themselves and consider how their actions can make a difference to the lives of others.
Through our Value Vouchers and the recognition of positive choices throughout school life, we celebrate examples of our values being lived out in practice.
We want our Christian vision to be visible in the way people are treated, the choices we make and the opportunities we provide for everyone to flourish.
Growing Together
Spiritual flourishing is for everyone.
We want children, staff, families and our wider community to have opportunities to pause, reflect, ask questions and grow. We recognise that spiritual development is personal and that people may respond to the same experience in different ways.
Our approach reflects the importance placed within the Church of England's SIAMS framework on the impact of a school's Christian vision, including how collective worship supports spiritual flourishing and how the curriculum contributes to the development of the whole person.
We continually consider how our provision helps children to develop spiritually, rather than simply counting the opportunities they experience. We want children to become increasingly confident in reflecting on their own ideas, listening to others, recognising wonder and beauty, and exploring questions of meaning and purpose.
We also recognise that adults continue to grow and reflect. Our vision is for a community in which children and adults are valued, supported and encouraged to flourish together.

Our hope is that every child leaves Temple Guiting with the confidence to ask questions, the curiosity to wonder, the compassion to care for others and the courage to make a positive difference in the world.
We want our children to appreciate their own worth, recognise the worth of others, develop a sense of responsibility towards the world and explore what gives life meaning and purpose.
Above all, we want Temple Guiting Church of England School to be a place where everyone is valued, everyone belongs and everyone has the opportunity to thrive — spiritually, emotionally, socially and academically.
